At Tyne and Wear Access, our training services are designed to elevate the skills of industry professionals and create a safer, more efficient workplace. We offer a diverse range of courses, from PASMA and IPAF to Forklift training, each tailored to meet industry standards and regulations. Our training programs focus on practical skills and safety procedures, ensuring that each participant is adequately equipped to handle workplace scenarios.
IPAF 3A – MOBILE VERTICAL (SCISSOR LIFT)
The 3A IPAF course is for operators of scissor lifts, which are among the most commonly used machines in construction, warehousing, and maintenance. They provide safe vertical access for a wide range of tasks, both indoors and outdoors.
In this course, participants are taught how to carry out pre-use inspections and daily safety checks, ensuring the machine is always safe and ready to operate. Training also covers how to manoeuvre and position the lift correctly while recognising and avoiding common hazards in the workplace.
Participants will also learn how to follow essential emergency procedures, including safe lowering techniques.
IPAF 3B – MOBILE BOOM (CHERRY PICKER)
The 3B IPAF course is for operators of mobile boom lifts, also known as cherry pickers. These machines provide access to hard-to-reach areas, making them essential for work in construction, telecoms, and high-level building maintenance.
The training focuses on the safe driving and positioning of cherry pickers, carrying out ground and stability assessments, and recognising workplace hazards to prevent accidents.
It also covers emergency procedures such as safe descent and equipment shutdown. By completing 3B training, participants gain the skills to operate cherry pickers confidently and efficiently across a range of job sites.
IPAF 1A – STATIC VERTICAL
The 1A IPAF course is focused on static vertical platforms, often used in warehouses and indoor areas where straight vertical access is needed but movement is limited. These lifts are common in environments where space is tight, but safe access to height is essential.
During the course, participants are shown how to position the platform correctly, carry out important pre-use checks, and operate the equipment safely in confined spaces.
The training also covers emergency lowering procedures, giving operators the confidence to use static vertical lifts safely for everyday tasks such as maintenance, installations, and stock management.

IPAF 1B – STATIC BOOM (VEHICLE, TRAILER & SPIDER LIFTS)
The 1B IPAF course is designed for operators who use static booms such as vehicle-mounted platforms, trailer-mounted booms, and spider lifts. These machines are often used in industries where safe access at height is essential, including utilities, facilities management, and inspection work.
The training covers how to set up and position static boom equipment safely, assess ground conditions to ensure stability, and carry out the necessary pre-use inspections before operating.
Participants also learn how to use the controls confidently and deal with emergency situations. By the end of the course, operators are prepared to handle static booms safely and effectively in a variety of work environments.
IPAF PAV – Push around vertical
The PAV IPAF course focuses on push-around vertical lifts, which are compact, lightweight platforms that can be moved into place by hand. These machines are commonly used for quick, low-level access indoors where space is limited.
The training teaches participants how to carry out pre-use inspections, assess risks, and safely manoeuvre the lift in tight or busy areas. Clear guidance is given on correct handling and safe operation to avoid accidents.
It also covers emergency procedures and safety awareness, ensuring operators have the confidence to use PAV lifts effectively. This course is especially valuable for electricians, cleaners, and maintenance teams working at low levels indoors.
